It is very different from other country that there are three kind of Co-operative in Indonesia, i.e. student Co-operative,”Koperasi Dosen (lecturer co-operative)”, “Koperasi pegawai(employ co-operative)”. Student Co-operative has been existed since 1980’s. Almost all universities in Indonesia have student Co-operative now. Member of Student Co-operative are student and it is managed by the students to fulfill student’s daily needs. Generally, Student Co-operative in Indonesia move their business in line of retail, communication service, food, and some co-operatives have saving and loan unit.
Student co-operative condition in universities is not necessarily in the same. Some student co-operative are able to be great co-operative, but some others still need some developments. One of student co-operative in Indonesia is student co-operative of Gadjah Mada University. It takes place in Yogyakarta. It has about 1300 members and almost all members are student. It is purely managed by the students and until now it has 75 employees. In 2007, it can reach 10, 2 billion in omzet. Besides, it can also give 167 million in Revenue to the members. Revenue is also given to the members in form of discount when they do their purchasing process. Student’s co-operative of Gadjah Mada University has also joined University coop workshop which is hold in Purwokerto. However, Student Co-operative Gadjah Mada University does not agree yet with a concept of university coop and it considers that secondary co-operative is a solution for Co-operative in general.
Student Co-operative of Gadjah Mada University will hold KISEI (Innovation conference of Indonesian Economic and Social) in November.

Dear Agus, According to your
Dear Agus,
According to your paper, I would like correcting many of words.
First, the student university co-op is not existing since 1980's but 1973's. Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (Indonesian Education State University) is the first existed student University Co-op in Indonesia.
Second, not almost universities has student university co-operative. According to Statistic Center Office’s data, at 2006 there was 3.663.365 students university in 3.441 state and private universities in Indonesia, but until now, according to Ministery of Co-op and SME's data there are just 526 student university co-op in Indonesia. And in the field, we just see about 50-60 students universities co-op. And they are very luck of member's relationship, luck of management, luck of education etc. They didn't shown theirself like consumer co-op movement and they didn't shown their capacities as "countervailing of Capitalism" system. They just express actualization of entreprenuership and become a servant in the capitalist sector in the future.
You said, Gajah Mada Student University Co-op is not agree with the concept of University Co-op. Could you give any reasons ?. As I know, according to the co-op principle, open membership and volounterly are the main principle of Co-op.
